In the surface treatment technology of hand model finishing, it can be divided into two parts: traditional finishing technology and non-traditional finishing technology. The traditional finishing technology is mainly manual polishing, and now it has been developed into mechanical finishing; non-traditional polishing mainly includes chemical polishing, electrochemical polishing, electrolytic polishing, electrochemical mechanical polishing, ultrasonic processing, magnetorheological polishing, laser polishing technology And electric spark polishing, etc.


1. Manual grinding and polishing


This method does not require special equipment and is relatively adaptable. It mainly depends on the experience and technical level of the operator. The efficiency is low (about 1/3 of the entire prototype model cycle), the labor intensity of workers is high, and the quality is unstable, which restricts our country. The processing of prototype models is developing to a higher level. However, with regard to the current state of socio-economic and technological development, this processing method cannot be completely eliminated for the time being.


2. Digital hand polishing machine


The polishing tool adopts numerical control, digital display and process parameter control, equipped with a full set of grinding heads and abrasive tools, semi-automatic polishing, and has the advantages of small size, convenient use, stable quality, and good repeatability. Application scope: a. Material: various hand plate materials, including cast steel, forged steel, aluminum alloy and zinc alloy. b. The surface size of the prototype: 100×100 (mm)-1,500×3,000 (mm).

3. Ultrasonic hand polishing machine


The polishing tool adopts high-frequency electric spark pulse power supply and ultrasonic rapid vibration grinding principle for polishing. It can complete the polishing of narrow grooves, slits, edges and corners that are difficult to penetrate by ordinary polishing tools (electric grinding soft shafts, etc.), and the edges and corners will not collapse after polishing, and the accuracy of the polished prototype model will not be affected. Using this tool for polishing can quickly reshape and polish rough surfaces without being limited by the shape of the workpiece and the hardness of the material. There is no requirement for the roughness of the original surface, and the efficiency is relatively high.


4. Use high-speed milling technology as a means of semi-finishing and finishing of prototypes


Using high-speed milling to process the prototype surface can save 25%-60% of the processing man-hours than EDM processing; high-speed milling has good surface quality, which can avoid surface fine lines that may appear in EDM; high-speed milling can process 45-60HRC hard surfaces, The surface roughness of finishing milling can reach Ra=0.63mm, reducing manual polishing man-hours; eliminating the manufacturing process of EDM processing electrodes, and significantly shortening the molding cycle.


5. Electrochemical and electrochemical mechanical finishing


Electrochemistry and its composite finishing technology mainly use the principle of electrochemical anode dissolution of metal workpieces for processing, which belongs to the removal of ions. And because it is non-contact processing, there is no processing deformation layer, metamorphic layer and residual stress; the tool is wear-free and can be used for a long time; it will not produce flash and burrs. The life of electrochemical machining is more than 5 times longer than that of general super finishing.
